As we move Indoors for the Winter, here is some information for new archers, and a bit of a refresher for others.

The 2 main distances indoors are 18 meters and 20 yards (there is about 28cm/11″ difference).

The 2 main face sizes indoor 60cm and 40cm. 80cm and 122cm can be used for practice.

Archers shoot 3 arrows per end before collecting.

Compound archers may choose to shoot on a 3-spot face, shooting 1 arrow in each face. This is mandatory at most competitions.

All scoring indoor uses the 10-zone system.

There are 3 scoring rings in the gold. Compound archers will score only the inner most ring as 10, with all other archers will scoring the two inner most rings as 10.

Popular competition rounds for indoors are:

• Portsmouth – 20y, 60cm face, 60 arrows (5 dzn 20 ends)
• WA18m – 18m, 40cm face, 60 arrows (5 dzn)

Other competition rounds for indoors are:

• WA25m – 25m, 60cm face, 60 arrows (5 dzn)
• WA Combined – WA25m + WA18m
• Vegas – 18m, 40cm face*, 60 arrows (5 dzn)
• Worcester – 20y, 40cm**,  60 arrows (5 dzn)

Other less common rounds are:

• Stafford – 30m, 80cm face, 72 arrows (6 dzn)
• Bray 1 – 20y, 40cm face, 30 arrows (2½ dzn)
• Bray 2 – 25y, 60cm face, 30 arrows (2½ dzn)

*Vegas Round

The Vegas Round is unusual in that it is shot on a 40cm, 5-zone, 3-spot face, arranged in a triangle format, requiring 1 arrow per face.

**Worcester Round

The Worcester Round is unusual in that it is shot on a special black-and-white face, which is only used for this round. The target face is 40cm with a 1-5 zone scoring system. The round is shot at 20 yards. One end of 5 arrows is shot for sighters, then the round proper is 5 dozen (60) arrows shot over 12 ends of 5 arrows. There are 2 faces on the target, one above the other. After 30 arrows the archers swap over.

Hope you all keeping safe and well, just want to give you all an update to when we can restart our shooting .
Following our Welsh Government’s latest update last Friday and with guidance from Sports Wales via the Welsh Archery Association our committee met via an online meeting and it was agreed that due to all the restrictions still in place that restarting at this present time would be too impractical to consider and to wait for the next update from the Welsh Government on the 1st of April and to hope to hear better news. Obviously, we will keep you informed of any updates
In the meantime, keep well and hope to see you sometime soon.

Massive Congratulations to Alice

She won the Welsh Field Masters (Series 4) at Fonmon Castle on Sunday 2nd July and will travel with the senior Welsh Field Archery team to Belfast on July 21st for the U.K. Champs (IFAA) at Londonderry.

She is now the current Under 18 Welsh, UK and European Field Archery Champion.
